1. Let your child handle small payments.

Going to the mall or grocery is always a nice way for moms and kids to explore and bond. Counting money as payment for food or taxi fare is also a good way to start!


But make your trip to the mall even more fun by letting your little one go through your list of things to buy, and help you collect each item. Tell him what they’re for, the cost, and how many you need of each one. Also tell him how much you have to spend and ask him if the shopping fits the budget.


By letting your child handle money and knowing the importance or urgency of an item, he’ll learn the difference between wants and needs, and budgeting. At the end of the day, he might even have change for a snack!

2. Teach your child how to save and earn.

As children, we all know how many hugs, kisses, and even tears it took for us to get something we wanted. But instead of going through all the trouble and watching our own kids throw a fit in the middle of a toy store, teach them the concept of savings.


Ask your child to point out a toy that he likes and to check its price. Of course, as our young ones only have a meager allowance (or probably none at all yet) ask them how much they are willing to pay each week, and how many weeks it’ll take to save enough for the toy. For pricier toys you’ll probably share the cost, but you’ll be surprised by how eager and focused they’ll become! They can also earn more money in exchange for good deeds like helping clean up at home. It’s a good discipline that they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.

3. Help your child make and maintain a schedule.

6 Ways to Increase Your Child's Appetite

2 cups fruit cocktail (drained from a can) or fresh fruits in season

1 box all-purpose cream

¾ cup condensed milk



1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.

2. Place fruit salad mixture in popsicle molds. You can also use small plastic cups.

3. Put popsicle sticks in the middle of the mold. For plastic cups, cover them with plastic cling wrap before inserting popsicle sticks.

4. Freeze until solid.


Makes about 8 ice pops.

4 slices of wheat bread

Store bought pizza sauce

2 squares ham, sliced in half

4 thick strips of cheddar cheese

1/4 cup sliced mushrooms

1 medium egg, beaten

1/2 cup Japanese bread crumbs

1 cup cooking oil



1. Remove the edges of the bread slices.

2. Press the slices of bread to make them flat.

3. Spread pizza sauce thinly onto the bread slices. Place the ham, cheese, and a bit of mushroom in the middle of each bread.

4. Roll the bread slices. Secure with a toothpick.

5. Dip the rolled bread slices in beaten egg then cover with Japanese bread crumbs.

6. Heat the cooking oil in a pot.

7. Fry the bread rolls in medium heat until golden brown. Place rolls in a plate lined with paper towels.

8. Serve hot.

6 pieces chocolate squares

6 pieces marshmallows

6 pieces sliced bananas

2. Heat in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds.

3. Remove from microwave and top each s’more with a banana and strawberry. Cover with the remaining graham crackers.

4. Serve Immediately.
