Help your child stay mentally alert with Nutroplex

BY CHIARA CUI

These days, a lot of emphasis has been placed on the importance of a healthy body. We exercise and eat a balanced diet of whole foods and grains but what about when it comes to our brain? As a parent, you play an important role in making sure your child’s brain is in tip-top shape. Here are a few ways you can make sure your child is mentally alert and ready for any challenge that comes his way.

Prepare a diet rich in "brain foods". Incorporate oily fish like salmon, mackerel, or sardines into his diet; these fish contain essential fatty acids that assist in brain function as well as help keep the heart and joints healthy. Not all fruits are created equal, studies have shown that the consumption of blueberries may delay short term memory loss so stock up on frozen blueberries for a fun and tasty treat. As for veggies, broccoli, which is high in vitamin K, can enhance cognitive function and boost brainpower. As for mid-day snacking foods, nuts might be the answer as they are a good source of vitamin E, which can help prevent cognitive decline.

Play brain training games with your child. Play time isn’t just about running around and being active, mental games are just as important. Let him solve some word search games and crossword puzzles, these help build his vocabulary and encourages mental focus. Memory games are also excellent at keeping kids’ brains working at an optimum level through focus and information retention, a useful skill not only for doing well in school but for practical things like memorizing important details like emergency phone numbers and directions for getting home. As he grows older, challenge him further by introducing games like chess to encourage him to think two steps ahead.

Teach him the importance of staying hydrated. A study done by the University of East London has shown that drinking a glass of water before a specific mental task can help your brain work 14 percent faster. They believe it’s because when you drink water, especially when you’re thirsty and dehydrated, you’re freeing up precious brain resources that were busy processing the sensations of thirst, allowing you to focus better on the matter at hand. Give your child a BPA-free water bottle to take with him when he goes off to school. Refill it when he gets back and see to it that he’s finishes it before going to bed.

Make sure he takes his vitamins. Even if your child may have a healthy diet and is mentally active, it is best to integrate a vitamin supplement into his daily routine to ensure he’s getting proper nutrition. Nutroplex is rich in Iron, Vitamin B-complex and Vitamin A, the essential vitamins and minerals that help enhance mental alertness and quick thinking. With that you are confident that he can be independent and can face life’s everyday challenges even when you are not around.
